Automating Donor Philanthropy
To walk the talk, Rada is attempting to automate his philanthopic giving and, in chronological order:
- downloaded a year's worth of Form 990s from the IRS website, filtered certain fields into Excel workbooks, and used heuristics to rank order entities.
- crawled and scraped the web sites of high-rated entities and extracted quotes about the minimum dollar amount to endow a named, targeted scholarship.
- used the the IRS Business Master File for non-profits to obtain the classification of each
entity from the IRS classification scheme.
- scraped the Labor Dept Scholarship Directory website to identify those non-profits that most frequently manage scholarship.
- added another filter atop the web scraper for minimum endowment amounts. This filter exploits vector embedding and logistic regression, as used by Large Language Models, and was trained on thousands of manually curated quotes.
